Healthy, happy, affordable, solutions
The few items that have made the easy transition from over paying for chemical cleaning solutions might surprise some people but I have honestly NO desire to ever go back to that burning, chest hurting hell that was my obsession with bleach. When I tell you that everyday of my "old life" I used murphy's oil, windex, bleach, pinesol and practically lived on Lysol wipes…. I am not exaggerating. I feel like to most people the smell of 409 or their other common kitchen or bathroom cleaner is the refreshing scent of clean… but the difference between very affordable natural cleaning products and that old way of life for me is truly a matter of overall better health. After a full day of cleaning with old products I would have a bloated belly and chest that made breathing feel like a task and not only does that destroy your endocrine system but most, if not all, people have sensitivity to these products that is creating a toxic environment for us and our families… store bought cleaning goo (besides the “natural” or “green” stuff) also makes cleaning a messy, mind fogging task. And who can afford to buy all that new “natural” stuff when it’s always almost $3 to $10 more?! Well, not me, not anymore!
Under my sink is :
a spray bottle of ½ white vinegar, ½ water
a box of baking soda
1 bottle of rubbing alcohol
1 box of borax
1 box of washing soda
and my one big bottle purchase that lasts a very long time…
¼ cup of “simple green” mixed with water in “windex” size spray bottle
These are so much safer and give me a clear head when cleaning, especially around my dog Pepper who think everything in site is a chew toy.
The second best part about my new "solutions" for cleaning is that all together I'm spending $8 for a gallon of simple green that lasts a year! The vinegar, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, borax and washing soda in total cost me about $9. That's only $17 for about a year of clean laundry and products for your entire home!
In other posts I will provide recipes I use for dishwasher detergent, dish soap, laundry detergent, carpet powder, stain remover and couch cleaner (which is what the borax and washing soda is for) but for now I’ll tell you that the new smell of clean is the temporary nose tingle of vinegar!
